Laser Hair Removal for Men and Women

What is the laser hair removal process?

Your doctor uses a low-energy laser to remove the hair. Laser hair removal can be used for larger areas such as the back, legs and face because it treats more than one hair at a time. The process leaves your skin looking and feeling smoother and silkier.

The laser slows the growing capacity of the hair follicles in their growth cycle at the time of treatment. Since some hairs may enter their growth cycle after your treatment, you may need multiple treatments for optimal results. The laser may cause the hair to come back slower and thinner.

That depends on the area you want treated, the hair density and growth cycle. Many factors influence the hair’s growth such as your age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism.

It is a three-step process. The area to be treated is:

  1. Cleansed.
  2. Shaved.
  3. Scanned by the laser.

The laser disables the hair follicles. Treatments can last from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on the size of the area treated.

The treated area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities. Your doctor may suggest you use a particular skin care regime/product line for your skin type. Be sure to use sun screen on treated areas exposed to the sun.

Electrolysis is a slower (and sometimes more painful) process, using a needle inserted into each hair follicle, one at a time. Once inserted, the needle delivers an electric shock, burning the follicle to retard hair growth.

Your doctor can treat large areas, unlike with electrolysis, waxing or tweezing. It is effective on almost any area of the body.
