What is Botox Cosmetic?

No. It is approved by the FDA for treatment of wrinkles and frown lines. It has also been used for the last 30 years to treat neurological disorders. The National Institutes of Health issued a statement over a decade ago about the safe use of botulinum toxin for therapueutic use.

It relaxes the underlying muscles so they don’t contract, thus preventing wrinkles from appearing. Untreated muscles continue to contract in a normal fashion, allowing your normal facial expression to be unaffected.

The entire treatment takes about 10 minutes. Using a tiny micro-needle, your doctor injects a very small amount of Botox Cosmetic precisely into several locations on your face. The pain should be minimal, similar to a bug bite. You can resume normal activities immediately, such as driving yourself back to work or home after the treatment. You may experience slight temporary bruising at the treatment site which can be covered with makeup.

Many times Actinic Keratosis is diagnosed by clinical appearance. However, sometimes your doctor performs a skin biopsy. Your treatment will vary based on the location, size and amount of lesions. Your doctor will also consider your age and overall health condition.

Because some drugs interfere with nerve impulses to muscles, be sure to let your doctor know what drugs you are taking before beginning Botox Cosmetic.
